Big Thompson River US-34 Flood Recovery

Severe flooding occurred in the Big Thompson Canyon during September 2013 and emergency repairs were completed in November 2013. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is now implementing more permanent engineered design within the canyon to protect against significant damage during future flood events. FlyWater inc. has completed several Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) projects on the Big Thompson River along US-34 with multiple design and construction teams, including Kiewit Infrastructure Co., Otak Inc., and Iron Woman Construction. The FlyWater team continues to work in the Big Thompson Canyon along US-34 in additional stream reaches to restore the river to pre-flood conditions, improve aquatic habitat, and aid in the resiliency of the Big Thompson Canyon.
