Yampa River Irrigation Delivery and Habitat Improvement

The Gibralter Ditch irrigation system on the Yampa River was previously controlled by push up dams to direct water delivery; however increased sediment and bedload had caused the river to become destabilized and affect water resource infrastructure. FlyWater worked with the Routt County Conservation District (RCCD) and The Nature Conservancy, and teamed with the Colorado Water and Natural Resources (CWNR) Group from Otak, Inc.; FlyWater was tasked with both construction of a high flow channel upstream of the Gibralter Ditch and installing a cross-channel grade control structure in the river. Two secondary sills were installed within the overflow channel to hold grade, as well as one sill located at the entrance of the overflow channel.
