Granby Diversion Fish Passage

FlyWater collaborated with Freestone Aquatics to conceptualize and subsequently execute enhancements for the Town of Granby’s current water supply diversion on the Fraser River, aiming to facilitate fish passage for both trout and the native Mottled Sculpin. The project was financially supported by the USFWS through the National Fish Passage Program and Trout Unlimited.

The Granby Diversion, an expansive 80-foot-wide boulder structure, serves to divert the municipal water supply and irrigation water from the Fraser River to the Town of Granby. Our team was instrumental in overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from its inception and survey, through comprehensive design, and ultimately the construction and restoration phases.

Our dedicated team diligently constructed a specialized fish passage in the Fraser River, utilizing strategically positioned rocks and other innovative features to facilitate the seamless movement of fish through the waterway. Furthermore, our efforts extended to enhancing the existing habitats and reinstating the natural state of the riverbanks, ensuring comprehensive ecological restoration alongside the passage's construction.

The installation of structures and habitat rocks necessitated precise adherence to tight tolerances due to the swimming criteria of the Mottled Sculpin and the imperative maintenance of a no-rise floodplain.

Ultimately, the project was successfully concluded within the stipulated timeline and budgetary constraints, attesting to its seamless execution and management.
