Verner State Wildlife Area Project

In 2021, FlyWater collaborated with Stillwater Sciences on a series of projects within State Wildlife Areas (SWA) as part of Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Northwest Aquatic Improvements Design Build Project. These projects, completed within an accelerated and highly efficient timeline, allowed for seamless progression from design to permitting and construction within the same calendar year. Each project entailed distinct improvement goals, points of contact, and budget considerations.

For the North Platte River Restoration at Verner SWA Project, goals included stabilizing eroding banks, increasing in-stream habitat for fish, reducing in-stream temperatures, and promoting sediment continuity and transport capacity. Our team added depth and manipulated channel dimensions to achieve these goals, as well as installing wood structures for stability and habitat. Bank treatments occurred throughout the project area as well, with riparian vegetation plantings and bank slope adjustments.
