Gypsum State Wildlife Area Project

In 2021, FlyWater collaborated with Stillwater Sciences on a series of projects within State Wildlife Areas (SWA) as part of Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Northwest Aquatic Improvements Design Build Project. These projects, completed within an accelerated and highly efficient timeline, allowed for seamless progression from design to permitting and construction within the same calendar year. Each project entailed distinct improvement goals, points of contact, and budget considerations.

For the Eagle River Diversion Maintenance and Habitat Improvements at Gypsum Ponds SWA Project, our team designed and built a riffle rock ramp with multiple cross-channel structures to maintain the decreed water right, while allowing for upstream fish passage and safe boater passage over an existing diversion structure throughout a variety of flows. The project also included improved fish habitat and utilized water control and coffering throughout much of the project.
