Sarvis Creek State Wildlife Area Project

In 2021, FlyWater collaborated with Stillwater Sciences on a series of projects within State Wildlife Areas (SWA) as part of Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Northwest Aquatic Improvements Design Build Project. These projects, completed within an accelerated and highly efficient timeline, allowed for seamless progression from design to permitting and construction within the same calendar year. Each project entailed distinct improvement goals, points of contact, and budget considerations.

The initial project focused on the Sarvis Creek State Wildlife Area situated along the Yampa River. This endeavor aimed to restore proper channel form to amplify floodplain function and connectivity, facilitate sediment transport, and enhance overall recreational value and aquatic habitat. To fulfill these objectives, the project successfully boosted aquatic habitat and refuge, implemented riparian vegetation plantings and treatments, improved floodplain connectivity through higher flow channels, and fortified banks, achieving significant outcomes.
